Introduction of Chromebooks

Singapore SEO Specialist | May 14th, 2011 No comments

Google has just announced the first Chromebooks made by Samsung and Acer.

Unlike typical notebooks, you need not wait minutes for the Chromebook to boot and browser to start. Instead, you will be reading your email in matter of seconds – thanks to automatic updates the software on your Chromebook which will get faster over time.

For applications, games, photos, music, movies and documents, you will be able to access them wherever you are and you won’t need to worry about losing your computer or forgetting to back up files.

For the battery, Chromebooks will last a day of use on a single charge, hence, you do not need to carry a power cord everywhere you go.

With optional 3G, you can surf the web whenever you need it. Chromebooks have many layers of security built in, so anti-virus software is not needed.

More importantly, you do not need to spend hours in setting up your computer as well as keeping it up to date.

At the core of the Chromebook is the Chrome web browser. Testing out any new applications or sharing them with friends are as easy as clicking a link. Information can be searched instantly and with HTML5 and other open standards, web applications will soon be able to do anything traditional applications can do or even more.

With regards to the site clinic Google has recently held in London, topics that has been covered are summarised as follow.

1. Title tags and meta description tags are easy ways to improve website’s visibility in Google search results. However, the meta keywords can be ignored as far as Google is concerned.

2. Page’s headings, h1, h2 and h3 tags are very useful as they help the search engine to understand the priorities of a site’s content.

3. Internal linking can help both users and search engine bots explore all the content within the website. In addition, providing a regularly updated Sitemap (linked to through website’s robots.txt file) allows automatic discovery by Google and other search engines.

4. Duplicate content and canonicalization issues – Use of 301 redirects or the rel=”canonical” link element to signal the preferred versions of the content. For preference on whether to use www or non-www for a domain, it is recommend to check out the related feature in Webmaster Tools.

5. Issue related to websites that have error pages but did not return an error HTTP result code.

6. Ranking for misspelled queries seems to be an area of concern.

7. Webpage loading speed – Google has offered a wide range of tools and recommendations to help webmasters understand the performance of their websites and how to improve them.
